Huawei P20 Pro review: the facts
In early 2018, the Chinese competitor to smartphone giants like Apple and Samsung caused an uproar. Three new cell phones were released, the so-called Triple Force! Huawei P20, Huawei P20 Lite and Huawei P20 Pro, with the latter being the premium smartphone. While it’s very similar in design to the iPhone, it does have some unexpected tricks up its sleeve. In the Huawei P20 Pro review, we’ll tell you whether it’s worth flirting with the Huawei P20 Pro the next time you buy a refurbished cell phone.

All the strengths of the Huawei P20
- Waterproof
The Huawei p20 pro, whether new or used, is dustproof and waterproof, it is IP57 certified. That doesn’t mean you should go swimming with it. For a quick selfie in the pool, however, you don’t have to worry at least if the smartphone gets some water, up to a depth of 1.5 m and for about 30 seconds the Huawei p20 Pro can survive a dive without any problems. So if you drop your Huawei in the toilet at the next party, the evening won’t be ruined!
- Dual-SIM
The Huawei P20 Pro offers a rather unusual advantage by having a dual SIM slot installed in the frame. What am I supposed to do with it – you might ask yourself? However, this has some advantages. For example, you can use two tariffs from different providers and thus save money overall. For the jetsetters among you, SIM cards from different countries can be used, a bilingual mobile phone so to speak!
- Camera
The Huawei p20 pro was the first smartphone with a 3-lens system on the back. In combination with an ultra-zoom function and a choice of 10 to an incredible 40 megapixel photos, the lens system for hobby photographers is like the selfie for Instagram – a dream. A particularly interesting feature is the so-called “Light Fusion”, only 10 megapixel photos are taken for this, but the system pulls the data from 4 different pixels together into one pixel and thus creates a very good picture even in twilight. Whether in full sunshine, at dusk or even at night, your Instagram post will definitely impress!
- Preis
Even if the Huawei P20 pro is a real smartphone talent, it is still priced below the Apple iPhones, which are known to be expensive. Especially now, two years after its release, a used Huawei P20 Pro is available at a bargain price, well below the price of a used iPhone. For example, at Back Market you can find a Huawei P20 Pro in very good condition and with 128 GB from $280.
What are the weaknesses of the Huawei P20?
- No headphone jack
Like Apple, Huawei has taken the bold step of ditching the headphone jack on the Huawei P20 Pro. The connection for headphones thus runs via an adapter. Charging the cell phone and listening to your favorite podcast at the same time is no longer an option – we think it’s a shame. However, models from the same year and newer models generally look in vain for a headphone jack. If this is important to you, you should use the Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S9 , there aren’t many other alternatives at this level.
- The case
You can’t complain about the design of the Huawei P20 Pro, it’s elegant, timeless and has no awkward edges. Even if the glass back is ideal for checking the lipstick on the go, the high-gloss surface does not ensure a particularly good grip. This makes it easier to fall down and even the little brother’s sweet little hands leave unsightly marks.
- No memory card slot
The user of the Huawei P20 Pro has almost 114 GB of free storage space, which is more than enough for daily use. However, we would have found it better to at least have the option to expand the storage space for users who need a particularly large number of demanding applications. However, this is only a small negative point, since 128 GB of course already leaves an incredible amount of space to let off steam with photos, videos and apps.

What is the conclusion of the Huawei P20 Pro review?
Now the Huawei P20 Pro review comes to an end and you are wondering how is it going? We find: more strengths than weaknesses, but is it enough to choose the Huawei P20 Pro? Ultimately you have to decide that for yourself, but we think: yes!
It is not for nothing that the Huawei P20 Pro was voted the best smartphone of the year in 2018 and is still convincing two years later with an unbeatable price-performance ratio (especially on the Back Market, of course).
